Cortez, we're dying from willful blindness.
We're dying from willful blindness.
[By the way, it continues to be true that the police force in Cortez so far, are going to have a major portion of heaven. They are freaking saints. Incredible discipline, humanity, decency, courage, moral clarity. A maggot just tried to run over a crossing guard. Police in the other lane did a UE to stop the individual.]
........
A mile from here I waved to a fella on the street, f*** you! That's what he said.
As I arrived at the Welcome Center Parking lot, I said hi to a fella, f*** you, he replied.
And all these clueless sanctimonious middle and upper class folks, rich in their education and Resources by every comparison, don't have a fricking clue. Why? They don't need to have a fricking clue. They don't want to have a fricking clue. If they did have a fricking clue they'd have to stand up and face that they need to roll up their sleeves and help the 90% that their presence and lifestyle have pushed off of the dock into shark infested waters, to help them stop drowning. That this overprivileged crowd is the stick jamming the Hornet's nest, they are gentrifying this area and eroding the power of the lifelong residents economic and otherwise.
It is impossible that these lifelong residence, underprivileged, wouldn't be outraged.
Much more fun than facing their personal responsibility, complicity, much more fun to come out here once a month or once every 2 months and hold signs and then go to the golf course or climbing in the mountains, to living and socializing away from the 90%, except with their shameful giveaways, and leaving people drowning.
You bet I'm angry. You bet I'm upset.
But james, we have soup kitchens! We have a shelter. We have a warehouse that keeps the unhoused out of sight of our businesses and out of our site when we're in town at the restaurants and bars and shopping, everyday, what's not to love? We send them through an endless meat grinder of so-called services that absolutely serve well, our bank accounts, grinding the starving, wounded and dying lower and lower into self-blame for a system that isn't designed to make them healthy, but to make our bank accounts healthy.
And the three to 5,000 of our fellow citizens that are drowning in poverty but housed? They're so poor they can't afford the restaurants or to shop in town, they stay in their rotting houses, and crumbling neighborhoods, their rotting trailers, out of our sight. Is that sweet or what!? So politely and conveniently out of sight, and out of mind.
For all we know the priest and the levite, left a lunch bag by the wounded man. Dropped a blanket by him on the way to their warm hotel room him.
The good samaritan, didn't act to dismiss the individual, to self satisfy and absolve himself. Rather found solidarity, and acted accordingly. Not like it was the wounded man's emergency, but like they shared the emergency. Like toddlers, children, do before we teach them that, no, he's not your immediate family! She's not your immediate family!
The Good Samaritan had become like a little child again , with that family emergency response, solidarity, the raging empathy of a little child. Like my Lord and Master Jesus did.
